Justice In Motion (an Oxford-based physical theatre company) have visited John Hampden to provide a morning of county lines awareness and performance skills workshops for our Year 6 children. The presentations and workshops covered the hard-hitting issues around what ‘county lines’ means, knife crime and child exploitation, and what to do to keep themselves and their friends safe. Justice In Motion made the topics easier to understand and the sessions were really engaging for our pupils – they enjoyed taking part and asked lots of great questions throughout the morning.
Here’s what some of the children had to say about the morning:
“We learnt all about what county lines is and how much it can affect you and the people around you. If you get caught up in it all, it can be difficult to get out of, but if you do you should always ask someone for help. It’s really important to learn about it in Year 6 because we will be going into secondary school soon and we will start being on our own more of the time.”
“The workshops taught us about how serious county lines can be and how it can affect anybody and their families. We were told how to recognise if someone was trying to get us involved in it and what to do if we needed help. The rap and theatre sessions were really fun too!”
“Now we understand more about what it is, how seriously it can affect the families of the people involved and how big the issue is across the UK. It is really important to learn about it so that you can stay safe and keep other people safe.”
