Madame McRonald, MFL Coordinator organised un marché français (a French market) for Years 2 – 6 before October half term.
The children were given the chance to sample different French delicacies such as, baguette, croissants, tartes au citron, les petits beurres, les pains grilles et les bastognes to name a few! Our local supermarkets very kindly offered us the foods as part of their community outreach programme, Asda, Coop and Waitrose. Another hugely generous gesture was from Sue Mottram at Thame Twinning, she baked us 6 enormous traybakes with chocolate and sprinkles for the children to enjoy. Mrs Charlton merci millefois for all your help cutting the cakes and the baguettes!
French themed praise stickers were handed out to children when they were able to share a few French words, tricolor flags were painted on cheeks and some mini plastic jumping grenouilles (frogs) were shared and some Tour Eiffel keyrings.
The market stalls varied from la banque (the bank) where the children could test their French number recall and use pretend Euros to purchase items on other stalls. There was a small péluche stall (soft toys), as well as the foods stalls, Eiffel tower key rings and frogs.
French café music was played in the Jackson Hall to give the ambience of a French environment.
A big merci beaucoup to Mr Nutt and his class for their help in setting up and clearing up the market.
The children designed some superb posters for the market and we will be sharing their efforts and details of the event with our twinned school in Montesson.
